Election of Board Members and Approval of Auditors

It is time again to join in the selection of our Board of Trustees (“Board”) and discuss our financial statements – we will be holding our AGM on Monday June 3rd after morning assembly. Once again, we have chosen to combine the presentation of the financial statements, the approval of auditors for the coming year, and the Board elections into a single meeting. We encourage you to come and participate in this process!

Financial Statements

Once a year, the school presents the audited financial statements from the previous fiscal year and affirms the external auditors for next year. It is also a time to look at the financial picture of the school and remind ourselves how it serves our goal to ensure the students are well served in a Waldorf educational system, and that our strategic plan is focused upon building a healthy environment for our community.

Board Responsibilities

The Board is made up of a combination of faculty members, community members and parent members who oversee the legal, financial and long-range planning activities of London Waldorf School. While Trustees are elected from both the faculty (by faculty) and from the community (by parents of the school), they are not elected to represent the viewpoints of a particular group (i.e. fellow faculty or fellow parents). Rather, Board members must take a broad perspective in carrying out their role in order to support the school as a whole. The Board is ultimately responsible for the effective governance of the school and works strategically to foster its legal and financial health.

Board Bylaws

The Board is seeking the approval of the community to amend several bylaws. Earlier this year, the Board reviewed its bylaws and found several items from the version crafted in 1984 and last updated in 2002 that no longer reflect what is happening at the school. Changing the bylaws of the school is the responsibility of the membership of the school so please come out to help us ratify them.

Proposed Changes

Board Elections

The Board is currently preparing for the upcoming school year by asking the Nominations Committee to actively look for interested persons to fill roles on the Board. We do this by asking current Board members to evaluate their capacity to continue their service, and seeking new members for the opportunity to serve the school in this manner. This year we had two openings occur mid-term and were grateful to find wonderful people to fill the vacant roles. Lynn McKechnie, a former parent and former Board member, and Rachel Heydon, a parent in Grade 6, stepped in to these vacancies and have agreed to stand for re-election this year. Kathleen Schreurs, a current parent and LWS Alum who has been on the Board since 2016, is also up for re-election. If all three of these individuals are re-elected, this will fill our slate for the upcoming school year.
